Silver nanoparticles and its synthesis have been explored for many years and are of immense interest for the development of innovative pharmaceutical products. These products depend on the surface, morphology and biological properties of the nanoparticles. So the influence of surfactants on the optical, morphological and antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles has been studied. Silver nanoparticles have been synthesized by using chemical reduction method in the presence of two surfactants cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and poly vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). The synthesized nanoparticles have been characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and Transmission Electron microscopy. The antibacterial activity has also been studied and it was observed that the CTAB modified silver nanoparticles exhibit enhanced antibacterial activity than the PVP modified silver nanoparticles.
