Development of Structural Coating Material for Cement Composites Using GGBS, Multi Walled Carbon Nano Tubes and Carbon Fibers

Tiny micro cracks formed at micro scale are responsible for the failure of structural members or failure in many construction materials. If cracks are developed in the structural members, these structural members may collapse immediately without giving enough time for retrofitting;hence cracks need to be avoided or decrease. Discrete short fibers are widely used to control the formation of cracks and epoxy resins are used in retrofitting and crack filling in cement composites. Use of crack filling material may fill the cracks and strengthen members but not sure thatcracks will not form again, hence these cracks are to be avoided completely and it is done by coating the cement composites. Cracks are controlled by coating the structural members with structural coating material. If Ceramic coating material is used, it must be cured for 28 days which istime consuming process. Hence non-cementing coating material which does not requires water curing of 28 days such as GGBS must be used. In Present study GGBS which is reinforced at micro and nano scale using CF's and MWCNT's respectively with alkaline solutions for hydration of GGBS like NaOHand Na_(2)SiO_(3) are used as coating material for cement composites.
