Due to the severity of environmental conditions under which piping systems are usually used, in-pipe inspection has not yet become a standard means of maintaining pipe in many areas, with the exception of a few specific areas such as water supply and sewage systems. However, the more crucial is the function performed by a piping system, the greater is the need to ensure its safety throughout its service life by accurately ascertaining, with the use of the best available techniques, how much longer it can safely remain in service. An indispensable prerequisite for such an inspection is to obtain as much inspection data as possible in a quantified form.
