摘要

Quantification of NDT capabilities and confidence in the reliability of NDT performance is becoming increasingly important in modern engineering applications. NDT performance levels are being incorporated into more efficient designs, into life cycle management based on design allowables, and into life extension of critical engineering structures and systems. The probability of detection (POD) has been used to meet design requirements and has added advantages in providing a tool for comparison of the performance capabilities of various NDT procedures, for quantification of improvements in NDT procedures, for validation and management of NDT system performance, and for the development and qualification of personnel skills. Reference NDT performance data are now available for use in NDT engineering analyses and for development and validation of new NDT procedures. The development and refinement of analysis tools for prediction and validation of NDT performance capabilities has expanded the importance and accountability of NDT engineering to a new level of professional contributions and recognition.
