My past year as ASNT president has been both one of the most pleasant and most unpleasant ones I have ever experienced. Fortunately, the pleasant portions of the year far outweighed the unpleasant ones. I thank all of you who are on the "make the President's year pleasant" side of the ledger. You are in the majority. I often joke about life at the university being so turbulent by saying that "The politics are so nasty, because the stakes are so low." I am not certain that I could make exactly the same statement about ASNT because the stakes are very high for our profession. The lives of our families depend on our capabilities and decisions.
