Irish single-family house in brick construction

An energy-efficient single-family house has been built on the Aran Islands west of Ireland, which resists the harsh conditions and provides a healthy-living climate inside. Among others the used wall-building material is responsible for this. Inisheer belongs to the Aran Islands and is a small island west of the Irish main island. Idyllic conditions prevail here but at the same time harsh weather conditions. Living and housing conditions must be adapted perfectly as well. The architect Patti O'Neill met these challenges at planning a new and modern single-family house on the island (Fig.). On the one hand the residents of the new house should be shielded from wind and weather, on the other hand an interesting and modern architecture in harmony with the view up to the coast, towards the sea and even up to the Irish main island has been accomplished.
