Our ability to detect chemicals at increasingly lower concentrations continues to improve. As it does, the relevance of ultra-low analytical measurements to biological effects continues to be debated. The debate can be summarized as a single question: 'Is our ability to detect (or predict) significant biological effects in the receiving environment compromised if receiving water samples are not analyzed to ultra-low detection limits?
