摘要

Biological monitoring of marine contaminants often in- volves the analysis of metals accumulated in mussel tis- sues. Critiques of this type of monitoring suggest that although relatively good indications of ambient metal concentrations are determined, actual biological harm is not elucidated. Biomarkers, techniques originally devel- oped in medicine, have recently been employed in an at- tempt to ascertain the health of marine mussels.
