Ⅳ. Interrupted Anchor Weighing due to Windlass Failure

While the captioned vessel was weighing anchor in the Sendai offing before entering port, the windlass hydraulic motor started idling and the weighing of the starboard anchor stopped. Further inspection revealed that the hydraulic motor spindle and the windlass pinion gear had their teeth severely corroded and worn.
