Energy Star Qualification All of the printers reviewed here have earned the Energy Star qualification of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. The Energy Star standard for printers went into effect on Aprih, 2007, and states that Energy Star printers must consume an average of 25 percent less energy than conventional printers, and they must offer duplex printing. The companies must follow specific guidelines to test their products and provide information on the amount of energy the units use in operation, in standby mode, and in sleep mode.
