Adobe to buy Macromedia

The face of the professional graphics and Web design market is to change forever after Adobe announced its intention to acquire Macromedia bythe end of the year in an all-stock transaction worth $3.4 billion. A statement from the companies reads: "The combination of Adobe and Macromedia will provide customers a more powerful set of solutions."They also hope to grow into new markets. The deal has been approved by the boards of both companies and is set to complete "by the end of the year". Macromedia shareholders will end up with an 18 per cent interest in the combined company. "Customers are calling for integrated software solutions that enable them to create, manage and deliver a wide range of compelling content and applications-from documents and images to audio and video," said Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen.
