The Designjet Z2100 is an eight-colour thermal inkjet printer from HP's new Z series available in 24in or 44in print widths. Compatible with a wide range of media, it can be used for anything from photographic and art printing to signs and banners. The 24in model tested here is a direct competitor to Epson's similarly priced and equally tough Stylus Pro 7800. The Z series will also include the forthcoming 12-colour Z3100, again with 24in (£3,854) and 44in (£6,486) widths. Its extra inks are red, green and blue to extend the colour gamut for brighter results, plus 'gloss enhancer' varnish.
