The book is a collection of articles presented at two one-week workshops: Mathematical Foundations of Speech Processing and Recognition and Mathematical Foundations of Natural Language Modeling. Both meetings were held in 2000 at the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications of the University of Minnesota. The workshops brought together specialists in speech and language technologies as well as mathematicians and statisticians working on related areas.
