Jay Carter's revolutionary gyroplane has created considerable skepticism among Machine Design readers. Some readers can't see how the planned aircraft will, as Carter claimed in the Dec. 14 news article, be able to take off and land vertically and fly at low speeds like a helicopter (without being capable of a sustained hover), and still be able to match the high speeds, long range, high altitude, and efficiency of a regular plane.
