This article describes the dramatic changes which have taken place in leading banks, insurance companies and building societies during the financial services revolution which has completely restructured the industry, transformed levels of productivity, multiplied the returns to shareholders, senior executives, fund managers and city traders and left hundreds of thousands of people unemployed or prematurely retired.
