The client wanted to reinvigorate the Mall and a concept had been developed by Urbis which included retaining the gate on Wickham Street,creating a new central shade structure and a new gate on Ann St.The design needed to consider Chinese design philosophies such as Feng Shui (hence all catenary wires have odd numbers of fittings).They had a concept of hanging Chinese lanterns on catenaries but were proposing to use separate floodlighting to illuminate the area.
