Imaging: you're walking from the taxi toward the foyer of your hotel, tired and bedraggled from a 24-hour flight. Your suitcase has a sticky wheel that keeps jamming, and the smell of the airline food seems to be trapped inside your nose. But once the hotel doors slide open and you step inside, you're suddenly awash in soft music, low lighting and that particular ambience of luxury - suddenly, you forget you've even been on a plane at all. This is the role of a good hospitality space - to create a particular atmosphere, an experience, that is the result of a series of creative visions being executed in harmony. Lighting, of course, is key among these visions - it plays an important role in how our eyes travel around a space, the timbre of the atmosphere and how we observe ourselves within it. In short, it plays a key role in how we feel in a given moment in time.
