LEDS BRIGHTEN WHILE OLD LAMPS DIM

LEDs and other solid state sources are marching forward, increasing their global unit sales in step with their proliferating colours, higher powers and lower prices. But there are consequences for the companies that still make the older lamps the LEDs are replacing. Often they are one and the same company, but that landscape is changing. In late April, two global giants of illumination, Osram and Philips have both posted 16% drops in sales of conventional lighting systems. Significant reorganisations of these companies are both underway.
