The 2020 edition of Australian and New Zealand lighting standard AS/NZS 1158.3.1 had some updates on the Category P (pedestrian dominant) lighting parameters and subcategory naming, compared with the previous editions[1]. Among the changes, the pathway has been separated from the Category P roads and become an independent subcategory. New parameters of pathway lighting have increased the horizontal illuminance and uniformity values while reduced the vertical illuminance values, which could impact the design spacing and the mounting height selection. This paper will discuss the study findings regarding these changes and provide suggestion on how to avoid the "Blind Spot" in pathway lighting design.
