The Cheryl Ramberg Ford and Allyn Ford Alumni Center atthe University of Oregon was designed for boldness, innovation and environmental sensitivity. The building serves as a gateway to the campus and a welcome center to everyone visiting. "Budget was a big driving force in the lighting design," says Mark Godfrey, lighting designer with Interface Engineering Lighting Studio, Portland, OR. "State regulations required a 20 percent below energy code building, so the dominant source was T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps." The exterior public plaza is subtly lighted with LED at seating areas and low level path lighting. Multiuse conference rooms are illuminated with narrow recessed fluorescent luminaires and wall wash to provide maximum flexibility. The boardroom is illuminated with drop glass CFL downlights, halogen downlights and wall wash to brighten the space without overpowering users.
