Speirs and Major Receive U.K. Honor; Scholarship Announced

The Royal Society of Arts announced that Mark Major and the late Jonathan Speirs were two of 12 top designers who were named Royal Designers for Industry for their innovative use of light to create public space. Major and Speirs are the first architectural lighting practitioners to receive this honor, which is regarded as the highest honor a designer can achieve in the UK. Major collected his award at a special ceremony at the Royal Society of Arts in London in November. Speirs's award, which was made posthumously following his death in June, was collected by his wife on his behalf.
