The third international Professional Lighting Design Convention (PLDC) was held in Madrid from 19 to 22 October 2011. In more than 60 presentations and six keynote addresses, over 1,200 participants gained valuable information on the latest advances and trends in lighting design, planning, and research. The participants came not only from Europe and North America, but demonstrated pronounced global origins. Two significant focal points of the convention - namely, sustainability, and light and health -received sharp thematic emphasis from a number of sides. PLDC 2011 offered a successful mixture of light design and future-oriented planning for natural and manmade environments. The program of accompanying events included exciting parties, presentation of the PLD Recognition Awards, and an exhibition by the lighting industry.
