It's a great day for flying. The air is crisp and cool, and it seems like a fine time to go buzz around the local area for an hour or so. But when you're ready to go, it seems the airplane doesn't share your enthusiasm. The engine turns over so slowly that it seems like it's never going to start. Slow cranking has been a persistent complaint of pilots from time immemorial, no doubt partly because aircraft batteries are minimal in capacity for the application, and partly because engine displacements are so large. And also partly because straight-weight aviation oils have tended to be molasses-like in consistency.
