THE NEED FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BAYER REFINING

This paper examines the impact of energy efficiency on Aluminarnrefinery operating cost and profitability. The impact of rapidrnrefinery construction during the recent economic boom isrnreviewed. The various energy sinks in a refinery are examined,rnwith a view to targeting the largest contributors. The perceptionrnthat the bauxite type contributes significantly to energy efficiencyrnis also examined. The need for ongoing modernization andrncapitalization of a refinery is discussed, as well as the best time inrnthe market cycle to execute energy improvement initiatives.
