The surface oscillation of liquid aluminum in the new type ofrncathode design in 168 kA aluminum reduction cells was measuredrnby a dynamic detecting system of surface oscillation of liquidrnaluminum, which is designed independently to study thernmechanism on energy saving. The measurements show that therncathode convex in the new type of cathode could reduce thernvelocity of liquid aluminum and could weaken the surfacernoscillation of liquid aluminum, so the energy consumption couldrnbe reduced by decreasing the interpolar distance. The surfacernoscillation of liquid aluminum was not affected by the operationrnof metal tapping, but it was affected greatly by anode changing.rnAfter anode changing the periodic time is changed a little.rnTypically, the periodic time of liquid aluminum wave in the newrntype of cathode aluminum reduction cells is 50 s, the averagernvelocity of the liquid aluminum wave is 0.12 m/s, and thernwavelength is 6 m.
