Manuscript Catalogues and Book History

摘要

MANUSCRIPT CATALOGUES are what are described as 'first-order research tools'. They probably comprise the most dog-eared and soiled volumes in any library's support collection for manuscript studies. Thus, catalogues seem pellucid and inevitable, and for that reason they are rarely interrogated, much less theorized. This essay offers one effort at redressing this problem.
