This article scrutinises the voluntary work of Munster Public Library, Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia. Various aspects of the "volunteer model" as a way of maintaining the branch libraries will be explored, such as reading sponsorships, which take place in libraries, schools, and day care centres or by means of a cargo bike in public places (playgrounds etc.). In addition, the sponsoring society and the library friends association support a large number of projects (e.g. book flea markets, open book shelves).
