The new Barbara and Mike Bass Library/Community Resource Center at Lorain County Community College (LCCC), Elyria, OH, also includes the North Branch Library of the Elyria Public Library System (EPLS)-the first public library branch in Ohio to be incorporated within an academic library.rnThe idea to house a public library component within the new 86,000 square foot LCCC library came from LCCC president Roy Church, EPLS director Janet Stoffer told LJ. LCCC fully funded construction of the building, thanks to gifts from local philanthropists, and sought ideas from EPLS.rnStoffer wanted a full-service branch with a reference desk, story time room, and a welcoming area and got it all. Popular materials, including fiction, are in the ground-floor "living room," complete with fireplace and comfortable chairs, while a second-floor Information Commons offers 75 computers for all teen and adult users.rnEPLS's 4000-item collection is interfiled with LCCC's 110,000 titles, the integration made easier because LCCC uses the Dewey system. EPLS staffs the public library area with 2.5 FTE employees, while LCCC handles nonpro-fessional details.
