Serving In Tough Times

It is somewhat ironic that at the same time that LJ reports in this issue continued gains in starting salaries for those who completed master's degrees in library and/or information science in 2007, the economy as a whole is going through the worst crisis since the Great Depression. Compiled a year after graduation, the "Placements and Salaries" survey reveals that not only did beginning salaries rise, on average, to over $42,000, so did the percent of graduates getting jobs in certain areas and specialties, among them school library media centers nationally and academic libraries in the Northeast.
