The Atlantic Ocean has played a critical role in the history of Africa and the Americas, with historical developments and cultural influences flowing in both directions for centuries. Those routes have seen some of the worst abuses in human existence, yet have also stimulated the cultures of Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas. This catalog, which accompanies a 2010 exhibition at Tate Liverpool, features 20th- and 21st-century works of art addressing these transatlantic developments.
