New Directions for Collections

New strategies for building e-collections were the order of the day at two meetings in Europe this April. The "Fiesole" Collection Development Retreat (Leuven, Belgium) and the UK Serials Group (UKSG) meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, each encouraged participants to reconsider some new ideas that may be on the brink of reshaping library services.rnE-joumals already dominate: libraries in many countries have decided to go e-only as much as possible, though humanities disciplines often remain the exception. Ebooks are the next big thing, with a real breakthrough expected soon, according to buzz at these conferences. Libraries are subscribing to more ebook collections as patron demand increases slowly but steadily.
