PLA ATTENDANCE DROPS, BUT ENTHUSIASM HIGH

A total of 7,725 people attended the 2010 Public Library Association (PLA) National Conference March 23-27 in Portland, OR, a not insignificant dropoff from previous conferences but likely attributable to both tightened travel budgets andrnthe somewhat remote location. LJ covered the conference online (see LibraryJoumal.com/PLA2010) and will have more coverage in the May 1 issue, but one of the biggest pieces of news offered numbers: some 77 million people 14 years of age and older used the Internet via public libraries in 2009 for everything from job search and education to health research and e-government.
