Remarkably, New York Public Library's (NYPL) system, incorporating libraries in Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx, suffered virtually no structural damage from Sandy, the storm that ravaged many parts of the city and the East Coast. "Power is our problem right now," Angela Montefinise, an NYPL spokesperson told LJ on November 1. Of the system's 90 branches, 55 were open on November 2, and an amazing 85 opened November 5, with slightly altered hours.
