In 1989, maniac Graham Sutter (Brett Rickaby) kidnaps Martin Bristol (Spencer List), a six-year-old child suffering from a disorder that leaves him unable to feel pain. For five yean, Sutter holds Martin captive in an abandoned slaughterhouse and trains him in the art of serial murder, forcing him to witness the abduction and slaying of a series of teenaged girls. When a recently orphaned 17-year-old (Alexandra Daddario) comes to live with her uncle (Michael Biehn) and his family, she encounters young Martin, and it's game on for the deranged killer and his protege. Writer/director Mena's rural slasher saga is technically accomplished and visually evocative, most notably in its images of pastoral homesteads and lush cornfields, and more character-driven than the average horror flick, but in the end it remains a brutal exercise in torture porn.
