This film is actor Javier Bardem s (No Country for Old Men; Eat Pray Love; Skyfall) vehicle to educate viewers about the plight of as many as 200,000 displaced citizens from the former Spanish colony of Western Sahara. Caught in an old and tangled political situation that began as a regional ownership problem and evolved into a dispute involving Cold War superpowers including the United States, the Sawhari have languished for too long in desert refugee camps with little attention paid to their plight. Bardem and Longoria aim to change that and effectively work with an articulate array of educators, Middle East experts, journalists, politicians, and activists to explain the complex history of Western Sahara and the state of affairs there today.
