After three years, World Book Night (WBN) U.S.-an effort to encour- age adult literacy by giving away free books-will cease operations for the foreseeable future, owing to a lack of sustainable funding. "The expenses of running World Book Night U.S., even given the sig- nificant financial and time commitment from publishers, writers, booksellers, librarians, printers, distributors, shippers. . .are too high to sustain," the organization stated in a July 2 press release.
