BS: Let's start at the beginning. What is cosmic horror? How does Lovecraft the man, and his legacy as a writer shape that definition? MS: To me, cosmic horror is a subgenre primarily characterized by the scope of the horror presented. There is a sense that the antagonistic force, whether evil or utterly indifferent, is so pervasive and powerful, and of such a size and scope, that its very existence dwarfs the significance of humanity.
