Landscape Design in the City: Historical Landscapes in the Modern Era

The importance of Russia's involvement in international dialog on landscape design or stewardship cannot be overstated. The Russian Federation covers the largest land area of any nation on Earth, comprising more than one eighth of its land mass, spanning eleven time zones, and containing vast natural resources and unique cultural landscapes. The cadre of landscape architects is growing rapidly in this country where the scale of human intervention and impact on the land has been nothing less than extreme, from the grand imperial layout of St. Petersburg, to the construction of huge industrial cities and displacement of millions of rural inhabitants for agricultural cultivation during the Soviet era.
