The scene left immediately behind each prescribed burn at PBMB is typical of that sensationalized by the media and debased by public service campaigns. Blackened stems of shrubs stand as testimonials to the passing fire while small tickertape ribbons of smoke lazily curl upward. If the public relies solely on this information as their benchmark, it is easyrnto see how a negative opinion of fire is drawn. Though rarely witnessed by the uniformed outsider, within one week after burning, we notice sprigs of wiregrass begin to resprout. Within two months after fire, the landscape otherwise obstructed by a head-high tangle of shrubs is cleared and forms a verdant pasture of grass.
