We live and trade in an uncertain world. Besides the big market challenges in which our Group operates, security and safety onboard our vessels, particularly passenger safety, have always been a top priority issue for us. This can be achieved through the application of clear procedures and continuous training of our staff, both onboard and ashore, thus avoiding human losses or damage to the environment. In addition to the ever-present danger of a maritime casualty, onboard fire or chemical spill, we must guard against and prepare contingencies for an attack, however unlikely, against one of our vessels. To ensure Group crew and shore staff are thoroughly prepared for terrorist-style aggression, a large-scale security exercise took place in June. Led by our Emergency Unit and supported by the Italian flag state administration and US Coastguard, the simulation was designed to test our ability to respond to a perceived threat against one or more vessels in the fleet.
