The use of ceramic materials for femoral head replacements is becoming more attractive as high wear resistance and excellent biocompatibility are now accompanied by improvements in toughness. However, uncertainties remain regarding long term performance under cyclic loading conditions in a physiological environment, The present research seeks to provide the required understanding by conducting a series of critical fatigue experiments using simulated in vivo conditions.
