Today composite materials continue to find wider applications, Particularly in the automotive and aerospace industries. The concept of improving mechanical properties, such as strength, stiffness, fatigue, creep and specific properties of materials by embedding reinforcements of various types in a base material (or matrix) is attractive to the design engineer. Many major automobile components are made from these latest generation of hard and wear-resistant materials. Typical examples include cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, gearbox housings, crankshafts, brake discs and pads, alloy wheels and even dashboards.
