Novel ceramic composites (CMCs) were prepared by reactive infiltration of porous (50-70/100 T.D.) ceramic preforms and in situ growth of an AlN bonding phase (10-35 vol/100) from molten Al Alloys. The continuity of the forming phases results in a very favourable balance of both physical And mechanical properties. Moreover, because the prepared composites have a continuous Al Phase (5-15 vol/100), they exhibit some traditional macroscopic plasticity, despite being Approximately 70 vol/100 ceramic.
