using the conventional sinterization process, we have obtained a mullitic material using as source of silica a residue originated in the Cerro Prieto Geothermal power Plant (Baja California, Mexico). This residue has been purified and used in the preparation of vitreous, refractory and Si_3N_4 materials[1,2]. We are interested in expanding the applications and uses of this silica rich Residue. In this work we study the formulation which corresponds to the stoichiometric ratio (3Al_2O_3.2 SiO_2) changing this with the addition of about 2/100 w/w of rare earths as doping agents.
