A new instrument has been developed for measuring the generated stresses during the plasma spraying, process. These stresses are due to the particle quenching, the temperature gradients during spraying, the temperature fluctuations during coating formation and the expansion mismatch between coating and substrate upon cooling. This device records in situ the curvature of a substrate during spraying and upon cooling after spraying with contacting displacement sensor
