To introduce fracture detection capability into CMCs, fibe-reinforced CMC with two types of matrices was synthesized. One was LaPO4 inio yarns for sliding layer and fracture detection capability, and the other was AI2O3/SiC nanocomposite into yarns for improving strength and oxide resistance. From the results of 3-point bending test, LapO4. is considered to be an effective interface material between matrix and SiC fiber Electrical resistance of LaPo4 was measured to be 1.4*10~3ω.cm at 1250 deg C. It suggests that there is a possibiliiy of introducing fracture detection capability into oxide fiber-reinforced CMCs.
