Demineralized bone matrices were proved to induce bone formation when implanted in animals or human. None has dealt with bone morphology, chemical and structural variations as a result of acid treatment. In the present study demineralization by 0.6 M HCI, of cranial and femur dog bones was carried out. Consequent changes in main chemical constituents, calcium (Ca~2+), inorganic phosphorus (Pi) and total protein (Pr) were determined spectrophotometrically. Crystalline structure was assessed by XRD. Morphological changes were studied using Hg-porosimeter and SEM supplemented by EDAX. Results are discussed in relation to chemical, crystalline and morphological structure of bone matrices.
