摘要

The influence of crack tip shielding by phase transformation on the fatigue crack behaviour of zirconia ceramics is analysed. The improvement in fatigue resistance by transformation toughening is estimated by a simple linear analytical expression for the development of toughening from which analytical expressions for fatigue life are derived. The results are qualitatively similar to those obtained by using a more realistic expression for shielding based on the measured R-curve under monotonic loading.
