Microstructure with grain orientation has a high potential for greatly improving characteristics of ceramics. This paper shows a very promising approach for developing the grain oriented structure through para- and dia- magnetic interaction of ceramics particles in an extremely strong magnetic field. We used alumina as raw material. High degree of grain orientation of alumina was successfully achieved in this study. The relative between magnetic field and slurry characteristics on grain orientation was examined. Examined effects which grain orientation in green compact include; magnetic intensity, solid loading of slurry, particle size, and particle shape.
