Development of Impact Strength Tester for Diamond Grit

An impact strength tester for diamond grit known as DFZY is introduced. Based on the principle of drop-weight method, the tester consists of automatic-impact device, energy-absorbing device, piezoelectric quartz sensor, signal conversion circuit, computer, printer, and so on. The energy-absorbing device is designed to make sure that the impact energy absorbed by diamond grit from a falling weight is just the right size for grit-fracturing, while the superfluous energy is absorbed by the energy-absorbing device. Thus we can get exact strength value for each specimen just by one impact. The impact strength measuring experiments for diamond grits are carried out with the DFZY tester. The effects of static strength, size and stress condition (impregnated state or unrestricted state) of diamond grit on the impact strength are also investigated. The results of these investigations have great reference value for designing and using of diamond tools.
